Itinerary

Day 1

Lusaka

After arrival in Lusaka transfer to a small lodge in the outskirts of town.

Overnight in chalets at Pioneer Camp or similar. Dinner in a restaurant (-/-/-).

Day 2, 3 and 4

Lower Zambezi National Park

After breakfast we drive through Lusaka and down the escarpment to the Zambezi valley. A visit to the Lower Zambezi Park is one of the highlights in Zambia.

The Zambezi River on the one side and the Escarpment on the other form the backdrop of our game viewing. We do game drives in the Park and boating along the river shore to watch the animals come to drink. On one of these days we will do a sunset boat cruise on the Zambezi.

We stay overnight in chalets at Eco Residence Lodge (or similar) on the banks of the Zambezi River (3x FB)

Day 5

Kafue National Park

Today we drive up the escarpment and back to Lusaka where we do some shopping for the next days in the bush. In the afternoon we carry on to Kafue National Park, where we stay in safari tents at Kubu Kweena Lodge. (FB)

Day 6

Kafue National Park

We spend this day with game drives in this area. Kafue National Park is well known for its variety of different species of antelopes. Leopards and prides of lions are also regularly seen in this area. Dinner is being served underneath the starlit sky.

Overnight in beautifully situated safari tents at Kubu Kweena Lodge on the banks of the Kafue river. (FB)

Day 7, 8 and 9

Busanga Plains

Transfer in north-western direction to Busanga Plains (partly with the boat up to Lufupa). This area can only be visited in a very limited time of the year. You will spend 3 days in this remote wilderness to explore the area on game drives and game walks. Overnight in Kasonso Camp (3x FB).

Day 10

Lusaka

We leave the plains and - crossing through Kafue National Park on our last game drive - head back to Lusaka. Overnight in chalets at Wilddog Lodge or similar. Dinner in the restaurant. (B/L/-).

Day 11

Mfuwe - South Luangwa National Park

Transfer to Lusaka Airport and domestic flight to Mfuwe. Transfer to our lodge next to the South Luangwa River.

Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or safari tents at Wildlife Camp or similar (FB).

Day 12, 13 and 14

South Luangwa National Park

South Luangwa NP is known for its abundance of African wildlife: Thorneycroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s Gnu, Crawshay Zebra, and big herds of buffalo and elephant. We have 3 full days to explore the area and will also have time to relax in between the game drives at our lodge.

Game drives along the Luangwa River often produce spectacular sightings. Hippo families can be seen in great numbers in the river, unparalleled in Africa.

During the dry season (July to October), many side channels of the river dry up, leaving the fish trapped. This attracts many different species of predators, such as the African fish eagle, jackal, and hyena.

The colourful Carmine bee-eaters are often seen perching in front of their nests in the river banks.

Overnight in chalets of Marula Lodge or safari tents at Wildlife Camp or similar (3x FB).
